Buddha Shakyamuni is seated with legs crossed in dhyanasana, his hands in dhyana and bhumisparsa mudras known as "calling the earth for witness" gesture. The image is the emblem of enlightenment, which portrays the Historic Buddha's conquest over Mara. The moment which when Shakyamuni achieved the state of universal consciousness. This is a fine example of the Siam statue merging of meticulous detail with broad modeling. The intricate decoration is extensive; patterns of crossed lines on the garment are punctuated with colored glass roundels which retain much of their original light. A quality of purity and innocence beams from this statue. In contrast to the rigid formality of the figure, the face is modeled with vitality and sensitivity to earthly charm. The countenance of the Buddha is alert, youthful and open. This is a work full of life and is in very good condition.
