A standing historic Buddha Shakyamuni, his right hand in varada mudra, the gesture of charity and compassion, and his extended fingers symbolizing the five perfections, of generosity, morality, patience, effort, and meditation. The work recalls Tang style Buddhas with grace of form enhanced by curvilinear delineation, the soft flowing fabric of the robe swaying at the hem as if touched by a slight breeze, complementing the upright stance of the Buddha, who holds a stupa in his left hand; his coiled locks frame his serene facial features, with high arching eyebrows, aquiline nose, and a prominent urna, the 31st physical characteristics of Buddha. The fine artistry of the Buddha has a quality of majestic dignity that radiates in the bliss of enlightenment. Densely grained, the polished surface presents a natural sheen on the red sandalwood, the statue appeared to be in very good condition.
