There are thirty-three forms of Kannon to assist sentient beings in earthly life. For this Japanese Bodhisattva of Compassion, she is standing erect in tribhanga pose. Her left hand raised to hold a vase of nectar indicated that the Goddess is Kudara Kannon, which means Bosatsu of Hundred Providences. The Kannon statue is exquisitely carved in classic Tang style. She wears a carved-through flame-like aureole and wrapped in a celestial scarf. Amidst a polished natural wood surface with neither lacquer nor paints. There is a tinge of contemporary aesthetics, subtle and Zen-like in the proportioned figure. It conveys a sense of solemn reverence and divinity in the equipoise with which this work is imbued. The statue is full of subtlety, authentic spirit, and well preserved for home decor or spiritual practice.
