Ganesh is worshipped by Hindu, Buddhist and Jainist devotees as a bringer of good fortune and wisdom, a remover of obstacles who is called upon at the beginning of a journey or a new venture. He is also the protector of knowledge, books and education. This finely cast gilt-bronze is in the traditional seated form of the God of Wealth, with one foot on the ground, and the other resting on his knee in royal ease position. He has four arms, his right hand is bestowing blessings, and left hand holding a bowl of sweets, in the hands behind him he holds a hatchet that cuts all obstacle, and a pasha (noose) to convey that worldly attachments and desires are a snare. This rare gem is admirably finished, with excellent chasing and inlaid of corals and turquoise stones, the figure is gracefully poised with a lively essence.
