In this luminous black lacquer statue, the Buddha of Immeasurable Radiance stands in front of a large curved-leaf nimbus with dense clouds enveloping the Buddha in the center. He stands in a serene meditative stance above a loti form pedestal lotus pedestal composed of nine gold drop leaves and 31 individual petals. His hands are forming the welcoming to Pure Land raigo-in mudra, signifying Amida's descent from heaven to greet faithful sentients in life and death. The exquisitely hand-carved Amida Shrine is meticulously lacquered and gold gilded in jointed block (Yosegi) technique from Japanese cypress, with a carved-out hollow core designed to prevent cracks from occurring in time. Consequently, the statue's delicate condition and preservation affirm this renowned sculptural technique. Despite a century passing, amid the glittering gilt splendor are the dust and incense-darkened lotus petals in such a way that invokes the spiritual essence with a sublime countenance.
