This antique Shakudo copper kagamibuta netsuke depicting a pronounce Sennin-like figure, a medicine man who is identified by his staff, out of which displays intricately gilded gold leaves, silver obi, and a copper-plated little bird merrily accompanying him. Housed in a cherrywood enclosure. The 19th-century Kagamibuta Manju enables us to glimpse into the folklore and customs of old Japan. The Sennin's facial features and balding long hair are partially worn due to its age. Nevertheless, along with his upright countenance, the rich tradition of indigenous flora in herbal medicine is honored in the theme of this kagamibuta netsuke.
