Dense light cream stag antler in ingenious curvatures portraying two mushrooms wrapped with a fir leaf; a pleasant farmer's lunch in the Edo era. The netsuke is boldly executed with exuberant brown blots, along with pleasing contrast of broad smooth areas, its tactile design succeeded in masking the cluster of details in the canopies, features a himotoshi in the center over an irregular platform carved through with three natural openings; naturally aged gold cream patina, this free form antler carving is an excellent example of the playful Edo period netsuke.
