Zen Master On Waves
Origin: China. Circa: Late Qing to Republics
H 15.5 in.(39cm), W 7 in.(17.5cm), D 6.5 in.(16.5cm)
Condition: Minor imperfection, o.a. very good!
Flowing contours imbue this Qing period Bodhidharma riding waves with a powerful spiritual presence extended into the ethereal dimension. Expertly carved from a beautiful piece of camphor wood, with convex cheek bones accentuate his large bulging eyes, curving lips reveals a faint whiff of his stern character, while the snail curved hair and eyebrows indicate his Indian origins. The sublime expression of the Zen Master is both commanding and contemplative. Extensively lacquered throughout the statue with small raised dab motifs; it does show a few worn edges, a couple of tiny lacquer lost due to its age. It is overall in good condition, and perfectly designed for daily contemplation.
