Flowing contours imbue this Qing period Bodhidharma riding waves with a powerful spiritual essence extended into the ethereal dimension. Expertly carved from a beautiful piece of camphor wood, with convex cheekbones accentuate his large bulging eyes, curving lips reveals a faint whiff of his stern character, while the snail curved hair and eyebrows indicate his Indian origins. The sublime expression of the Zen Master is both commanding and contemplative. Extensively lacquered throughout with small raised dab motifs; the statue does show a few worn edges, chip to the end of the staff, and some tiny lacquer lost due to its age. It is an authoritative statue of antiquity with a timeless presence; perfectly suitable for daily contemplation or as a family centerpiece.
