Amitayus is a manifestation of Amitabha, the Buddha of Infinite Light and the bestower of longevity. In this finely cast copper and gold gilt bronze figure. He sits in meditation above a lotus throne; his face is youthful and painted in cold gold, wearing a 5-pointed crown adorned with corals, turquoise, and a blue sapphire stone. Along with the jewels and hand-chased foliate patterns, the aged copper tone surface created a gorgeous contrast to the gleaming gold figure. Sealed with an engraved Viswa Vajra copper plate, besides a barely visible fissure on its neck, this spectacular 19th-century bronze is exquisitely realized with a spiritual essence in excellent condition.
