Condition: Fair to good

Shachi is the wife of Indra and the divine queen of the gods. She is one of the seven Matrikas Sisters, known as the Goddess of Wrath and the Goddess of Beauty. In this gorgeous Shachi Devi, she wears a gold crown, armbands, necklaces and dressed in a sarong weaved in gold, half-naked sitting above the four-headed elephant Airavata, swaying gently to her side with the stream of music from a small trumpet playing in her hands; beyond her Hindu and Buddhist cultural significance, European influence is seen here in the goddess design and sculptural composition, as well as the anatomical accuracy of the elephant, nicely portrayed with draping ears, wrinkled skin and folds of the hide, curving trunk and jeweled saddle clothes. Well cast with lifelike expression, the bronze statue has a malachite patina that enhances the designer quality of the piece.
